You can pitch your own work, propose an article about someone else or suggest a topic that you would like to research.
Please make sure that your submission is suitable for UPPERCASE magazine. Be familiar with the magazine and its writing and visual style.
Please do not submit the same idea multiple times. Please do not email about the status of your submission; you will be contacted if your work is suitable for publication. UPPERCASE is quarterly and sometimes we're planning issues nearly a year in advance. Thanks for your patience.
Please remember that you are submitting to a print magazine. You don't have to be a professional writer but good communications skills are very important. If your idea is excellent and/or your visual submission is amazing, we can pair you with one of our writers, we can interview you or find other ways to feature the idea or your talent.
Please follow the specific instructions in the submission forms.
Take your time to write and gather images before submitting.
When submitting images, please do not have any watermarks on them. Do not submit photo collages—each image should be separate.
<aside> 📌 Authorship and originality
By submitting to UPPERCASE, you confirm that you are the creator and author of the work and that you are not infringing on anyone's copyrighted material. You are allowing UPPERCASE to publish the work in print, digitally and on our website and in any related magazine productions and promotions. Unless otherwise noted, there is no fee to submit to UPPERCASE magazine. Submitters are not paid if their work is selected for publication in the open calls but commissioned articles and artwork will be compensated.

<aside> 📌 No AI-generated or AI-assisted art or writing
UPPERCASE has always uplifted the handmade, the crafted and the heartfelt in its quarterly print magazine: we respect, appreciate and promote original art and thought. With this in mind, UPPERCASE publishing inc wants to be clear about the use of AI (artificial intelligence) in its publications.
We will not publish any artwork that makes use of generative AI in whole or in part. We require that all written and visual commissions and submissions to UPPERCASE be made solely by the writer, artist, illustrator or photographer. This creation includes the rough ideation, brainstorming, initial sketches, or article outline stages, too. The use of ChatGPT or any other large language model to generate content or outlines or any aspect for any UPPERCASE articles, illustration or photography assignments will not be accepted.

Open Calls for Submissions
Ensure you’re on the UPPERCASE newletter list to get notified of any new opportunities!
Deadline: April 25, 2025
This open call invites UPPERCASE readers to create typographic ornaments.
Typographic ornaments—dingbats, fleurons, initial letters, borders and glyphs—provide decorative options to typographers and designers.
All mediums and styles are welcome! Carved, engraved, drawn, painted, stitched or produced via digital tools like Adobe Illustrator or Procreate.
A selection will be published in UPPERCASE issue #66 (July-Aug-Sept 2025) and/or the UPPERCASE newsletter.
We will also produce a free font from a selection of submissions that will be publicly available and free for readers to use in non-commercial projects. By submitting to this open call, you consent to your art being made available in this manner. This is a non-exclusive license, meaning that you are granting UPPERCASE permission to create and distribute this free font, and by extension, the font users to download and use the font for non-commercial purposes. You retain the copyright of your artwork and can use your artwork in any way you like.
If you have any objections to your work potentially being included in the font, do not enter.
